The coyotes howled as I stepped out of the vehicle. I threw on my pack, tightened the straps, and started hiking up the canyon. The silence was broken only by the wind, the crunch of my boots against the rock, and the occasional distant call of a coyote. I rounded the corner… And there they were. Petroglyphs. Not just one or two many of them. The canyon had been hiding its secrets all along. And suddenly, every damn mile was worth it.
