“The vastness of the desert frightened me. Everything looked too far away, even the cloudless sky. There was nowhere you could hide in such emptiness.”

I wonder how close we get to guessing these

Wonder, that is the secret. When we can go out and see and experience the marvelous works of ancient people without wonder is the day we truly lose our humanity. The day when the next turning in the canyon wall does not drive us forward, when the excitement of seeing signs of early human occupation fades, when you find a site and sit and ponder what life was like for these people and fail to see the connection to our everyday lives... We may never know the meaning of ancient artifacts left behind by our early ancestors, but to strive to understand and respect their achievements and failures is the true and honest pursuit and what breaths new life into me each and every wandering.
