U.S. Expected to Extend Moratorium on New Uranium Mining Near Grand Canyon



After nearly two years of discussion over whether or not uranium mining would be allowed near the Grand Canyon, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar is expected to announce approval of a 20-year moratorium on new uranium mining claims in a million-acre buffer zone around the Grand Canyon.

Hopi Clan Symbols


Tutuveni, a sacred site of unparalleled cultural importance to the Hopi people and A vital resource for archaeologists, has suffered much damage by vandals and souvenir hunters. Spray-painted graffiti has destroyed approximately 10% of the symbols that are carved into the stones at Tutuveni, which record more than 1,000 years of Hopi history and culture.
